I am basically a travel photographer. I usually shoot only when I travel. apart from that I also shoot family program, festival. I am not fully satisfied with the built in flash in my Canon 400d. I find it a bit dark while shooting in my room. I tried low shutter speed and higher aperture with a bit higher ISO and some other light feeding combination but the result is not very satisfactory. So thats why thinking to buy a separate gun.

sanjub,
Hope the details below are enough to take decisions, Canon has two models on the upper end which delivers higher power. 580 EX and 430 EX are the two models widely used by professionals and amateurs. These models can get triggered by Canon 7D in remote. 580 EX is costing around Rs: 23,000/- (approximately) and delivers a power of f/19 at 10 feet. 430 EX is costing around Rs: 15,000/- (approximately) and delivers a power of f/14 at 10 feet. Both are ETTL models, and they work as Auto fully synchronization with the body. Manual over ride is also available. The cost is a bit high in both Nikon and Canon models. But they are very good speedlights. If one is good at calculations and has a small meter to measure the flash light, then Vivitar 485 is suffecient. -Samson CJ ńōmάď |

Also, the 580Ex also has the master mode incase you want to use more then one flash for your pictures. 430Ex can only act as the slave! If you need a basic flash 430Ex is good! |

If you shop around for the 430EX will get £ 200 to £ 180 new or 430EX Mk2. If thats still too much you get a used 420EX for around £ 100.Do not waste money on 220EX, is very small and a fixed head, the more power and bounce tilt wan't.I have 430EX, FEL facility if you have a very reliable gun to use it to learn. I m the best results and for use in manual mode FEL
