Canon start up issue - battery?
Shall provide the introduction sooon.
I ahve a Canon S2IS camera which I had not used for the past 6 months.
Now even after inserting new batteries, the camera displays 'change your batteries' when I try to switch on the camera for taking photos.
However, I am able to browse in the camera the photos existing in the memory card.
How do I get over this problem?
Kindly help.

Please try cleaning the battery contacts with a soft lint free cloth. Also clean the battery contacts inside the battery compartment in the camera.
This problem typically happens when the camera cannot detect any battery.

Thanks - I ahve already done the clean up but no improvement. The camera detects the battery when I browse through the pictures in teh camera, but fails when I try to put in the picture capture mode!

Your only other option is to do a factory reset or restore on your camera. This should hopefully solve your problem.

The other solution is to try changing the small 'date/time' battery. You can have the regular batteries as charged as you like, it won't make any difference. The tiny date/time battery is in the same compartment as the regular batteries, on the opposite side of the hinge. Extract it with a fingernail, it is situated on the left hand wall of the battery compartment (when the camera is inverted and the compartment open).

Ok,quick questions
1. The new battery that you replaced what type and what capacity ??
2.have you tried using the adaptor and take pics ??
The thing is some camera's need a certain amount current to take pics (coz of the flash and such) but this doesn't apply to reviewing the pics which is already present !
Please do let Us know so that we can suggest a proper solution !!
Regards.

Re: Canon start up issue - battery?
Looks like the Bat. is not able to deliver the required current load. The Bat. may be new...but it might have had along shelf life.
PS cameras with zoom tends to park the lens train at certain position before the cam can take pic....so this needs initial power, which I think the Bat. is not able to provide.
If it uses AA BAT. USE FRESH DURACELL OR FULL CHARGED NI-cads.
Good luck.

Thanks for your response.
I have used new batteries (Nippo gold, Eveready, etc) as also fully charged up batteries of various capacities, but not of any use.
No, I have not tried with the adaptor so far, need to check if I have the same.
Shall try it out and then revert.

Thanks.
It uses AA cells.
I shall try out with new Duracell also.
Have already tried with rechargeable cells charged up.

Re: Canon start up issue - battery?
Have you tried changing the small 'date/time' battery as Cyrus has mentioned above?
